Ph.D. Thesis Title: Large-area Y2O3-based Memristive Crossbar Array for Neuromorphic Computation
Thesis Supervisor: Prof. Shaibal Mukherjee, Prof. Ajay Agarwal (External, IIT Jodhpur)
Summary of Ph.D. Research Work: In this research work, the analytical/physical modeling of the memristive devices along with the fabrication of memristive crossbar arrays (MCAs) for synaptic learning, analog computation, and neuromorphic computation applications have been demonstrated. In analytical modeling, the design and validation of the proposed models have been carried out on the MATLAB platform and further validated the same with experimental data. The physical modeling of the memristive device is performed in COMSOL Multiphysics software. The fabrication of the crossbar array is carried out by utilizing dual ion beam sputtering (DIBS) and DC magnetron sputtering and the investigation of electrical characterization is done by Keithley semiconductor parameter analyzer (SPA) SCS-4200A. Moreover, the electrical investigation of the MCAs helps to analyze the device switching stability in terms of cyclic endurability, retention time, resistance ratio, device-to-device (D2D), and cycle-to-cycle (C2C) variabilities in device switching voltages (VSET and VRESET). Also, the fabricated MCAs effectively show the multilevel current programming functionality, random alphabet writing, and spike time-dependent plasticity (STDP) functionalities as analogous to the Hebbian learning rules in the real human brain system. In this work, the device scalability is also invested to enhance the density of the fabricated MCAs which further helps to increase the storage capabilities and dense neural network architecture for in-memory and neuromorphic computation applications.
Master of Technology (M.Tech)
M. Tech. in Nanotechnology (Electromechanical) at Centre of Nanotechnology, RTU Campus, Kota, Rajasthan, India from 2014-2016.
Research Theme: Design, Simulation, and Fabrication of Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers (CMUTs) for Medical Imaging and Therapy Applications.
Thesis Supervisor: Dr. Sanju Tanwar (Assistant Professor, Centre of Nanotechnology, RTU Campus, Kota) and Dr. Rishi Sharma (Principal Scientist, CSIR-CEERI, Pilani)
Summary of M.Tech Research Work: This thesis focused on the design, simulation, and fabrication of capacitive ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) for a medical imaging application. The device design verification and simulation were carried out by utilizing MEMS tools CoventorWare and CMOSOL Multiphysics. Under the application of the external electric voltage bias (both AC and DC), the suspended oxide membrane over the cavity shows deflection with vibration towards the bottom contact and generates ultrasonic waves which are further utilized for medical imaging and therapy applications. Moreover, the deflection of the suspended membrane is dependent on the amplitude of the DC voltage bias while the speed of vibration is dependent on the amplitude of the AC voltage bias.
Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech)
B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) from Rajasthan Technical University, Kota, Rajasthan, India from 2009-2013.
Project: Universal Remote-Controlled Electrical Home Appliances.
Project Supervisor: Mr. Surendra Yadav
Summary of B.Tech Project Work: The project included the universal receiver unit which is able to receive the signal from any remote control unit which acts as a transmitter. Based on the input signal from the transmitter (either 'ON' or 'OFF') unit, the receiver unit sent the signal to the 'relay' for power 'ON' and 'OFF' in the home appliances circuit unit.
